What’s New for 2024?
For the new model year, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 loses one of its engine options. Now, only the 170-hp diesel and a high-output 211-hp diesel are offered. In the cab, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter gains a color display in the instrument cluster and a heated driver’s seat as standard equipment. Also, two new packages are offered - one that improves access through the rear doors and another that adds full hardboard side-wall paneling in the cargo bay and a host of other improvements.
Trims
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is broken up into configurations instead of trims. There’s the cargo van, crew van, and passenger van.
Cargo Van: As the base configuration, the Cargo Van model offers heated mirrors and front seats, a rearview camera, a sound system, and two USB ports.
Crew Van: In the Crew Van, drivers can expect to find minimal upgrades such as second-row and three-seat bench for five-passenger seating and side-door windows.
Passenger Van: For their passenger van, Mercedes-Benz offers a third row of rear seats and a rear interior trim with tinted rear windows.
Design
From the outside, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter looks like every passenger van in its class. But step inside, and this is where things improve. For instance, Sunland Park, NM, and Horizon City, TX, shoppers will find a much more refined cabin offering a leather-covered steering wheel and large 10.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. The Mercedes-Benz seats are also well-shaped, offering one comfortable ride, even after hours of sitting. There’s even more interior space than some passenger vans, with up to 533 cubic feet in Cargo versions. Passenger versions of the Sprinter, with the 144-inch wheelbase, seat 12 comfortably, while the 170-inch wheelbase versions can fit 15.
Performance
With the removal of one of its engine options, the turbodiesel four-cylinder with 170 horsepower and 295 pounds of torque is now the base engine. Upgrade to the twin-turbo diesel engine, and you get 211 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. Each engine is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, but only the high-output diesel comes with all-wheel drive.
Towing
If you have the base engine equipped, the Sprinter’s maximum towing capacity is 5,000 pounds, with a max payload of 4,699 pounds. With the high-output diesel, these numbers are raised to 7,500 pounds of towing with 6,812 pounds of payload capacity.
Technology
For passenger vans, in-cabin entertainment isn’t typically a high priority, but the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter does offer them, though as extra-cost options. Coming standard on this model is an audio system with basic AM/FM radio, a small LCD screen, Bluetooth, and a single USB-C port. Opt for the Premium package, and you’ll receive a seven-inch touchscreen, while the Premium Plus package includes a 10.3-inch screen, navigation, and Traffic Sign Assist. Both option packages also include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot.
Safety
While a fair number of safety features are offered on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, like forward collision mitigation and crosswind assistance, the majority of systems offered are optional.
